Long Overdue Vacation to California

Venice Beach California

It’s been a long time since I took a vacation to California.  The last time I went, I spent a couple of weeks there visiting a friend before I took off to visit Australia.  My friend met me at the Los Angeles airport.  We then rented a car and took our time driving to her house in San Diego.

We were tourists together and visited all the tourist sites, great bars and restaurants and beaches.  I can remember doing Venice Beach, Malibu Beach, and everything Hollywood.  We even shopped at Fredericks of Hollywood, a risqué lingerie shop, back in the day.

It’s been about 30 years since I was in California, if the truth be told.  Or, at least it seems like it.  And, we write a lot about California on this blog from one of our writers in California.  So, why not vacation in California for the second time?

So, this time, my partner and I are going to Los Angeles and visiting my brother who lives in Santa Monica.  I’m sure a lot has changed in 20 or 30 years.  We’re both excited.  My partner comes from another country – far from here – a country which takes about 12 hours to fly to.  I’m not mentioning his country of origin here because, well, that’s another article for this online magazine.

The Famous Hollywood Sign

Being from a foreign country so far away, he’s eager to see everything Hollywood.  Just like I was some 20 or 30 years ago.  Just like everyone else.  So, we’ll go take a look at everything that is Hollywood, take a tour of the Warner Bros. studio, take a photo of the Hollywood sign, visit Mann’s Chinese Theatre, Sunset Strip, Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, and maybe even Schwab’s.  We even got tickets to watch the filming of our favorite comedy, Two and a Half Men, Charlie Sheen’s sitcom.  He’s looking for movie stars, but while we’re in California, most of the celebrities will be in Toronto at the Toronto International Film Festival.  We’ll visit Venice Beach, Malibu Beach and take a drive up the Pacific Coast highway.  Eat organic food and look at beautiful, thin, and well preserved people who all want to be movie stars or have been.

We’re also going to drive to Las Vegas for a couple of days.  We found a great Las Vegas hotel which offered such a bargain price for our two night stay, we couldn’t resist.  Of course, we’ll do some gambling in Las Vegas, walk the strip, eat in some of those Las Vegas restaurants, and soak up the tourist sites of Vegas.  After all, they say, “what happens  in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” or so they say, except if, perhaps, you are Paris Hilton and your cocaine bag is falling out all over the place.

No doubt, we’ll also take a visit to the Hoover Dam.  However, what’s on our itinerary is a day trip to Death Valley, in the Mojave Desert.  Only because I love the desert and the photographs of the Death Valley landscapes I’ve seen on the internet are stunning.  Death Valley, so named because of the early pioneers who lost their lives trying to cross it is one of the hottest places on the planet earth and sits 282 feet below sea level.  I’ll probably post some photos of our vacation after we get back home to share with our readers.

Anyways, that our itinerary for our late summer vacation to Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
