The Murder of a Little Girl

Somer Thompson

Somer Thompson

Seven year old Somer Thompson, walked home innocently from school one day in a Jacksonville suburb, never knowing that it would be her last time to walk home. The news story of the investigation follows.

Just days later, her body would be found in a landfill in Georgia, about 50 miles away. Police had tailed garbage trucks from her neighbourhood. Investigators picked and sorted through the 225 pounds of trash before they found her body.

Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler, speaking at a news conference, said the quick discovery of the body would preserve evidence and help the police in their investigation.

An autopsy of the body has been completed but the authorities are not saying whether she was sexually assaulted or providing any other details about the body.

Somer’s mother who appeared on three network television stations, teary eyed, believes the killer will be caught.

It is hard to understand how anybody could snatch the life from this innocent little girl.

The killer of Somer Thompson has yet to be caught. Police have been investigating all known registered sex offenders in the Jacksonville area. None of these are suspects in the case currently. Investigators are trying to identify the garbage can where her body was left, based on the surrounding trash around her and the truck’s pickup schedule and route.
