Save Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani
We all know her familiar face by now – the portrait of a woman framed by her black veil. We all know of her suffering – two years in an Iranian jail and 99 lashes. All because this widow, a woman named Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani had a couple of relationships after her husband had died. Her suffering continues because she lives with the crippling fear that she will be stoned to death or death by hanging.
Even though the Iranian government has granted a reprieve to her death sentence by stoning, this does not mean that it will not happen at a later time. She could also receive the death sentence by hanging. It was her son who began this campaign to save his mother.
There has been international outrage against her situation. A world wide campaign to sign a petition against the stoning to death of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani has been spread by email, Facebook and Twitter. Sign the Petition
The world is outraged. I, along with many, many others, signed a petition which will be sent to the government of Iran to do away with this Medieval, barbaric practice. Sharia Law is anti-women, inhumane and misogynistic. This madness must be stopped in the countries which still practice it. It is time for the men of these countries to cease their hatred of women. It is time to enter the 21st century.
Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani must be saved. She has committed no crime. She is innocent. She and the other 12 Iranian women, currently on death row are also facing death by stoning. They are all innocent, grant them mercy.

I would have to agree, they should look to other modern Islamic states for guidance. It is the 21st century after all, and if you cannot live in the modern world and give dignity and safety to all of your citizens, it’s time to get rid of cars, TVs, cell phones and nuclear weapons too.
For the women who are suffering on death row in Iran, other countries should step up and offer them refuge and safety.
Yes, yes, yes, that is so true about all the moderate muslim states. Their outcry against the barbaric practices and rituals of sharia law are defeaning. I can hardly hear myself think. Thye condemn the stoning deaths of women and men almost as loudly as they condemn the honour killings and genital mutilation of muslim girls around the world. I am also confident the Pakistani child brides sent from Western Europe and North America to meet their cousins will be great messengers of the peaceful aspects of Allah’s greatest religion
