TIFF 2010

News is, the 35th Toronto International Film Festival is set to announce their lineup of films for the TIFF 2010 season today. We wait with bated breath.

Not only does the Toronto International Film Festival bring a lot of the most exciting new and documentary films to Toronto, it puts our fair city on the map again for better reasons than the G20 Summit violence. It also brings the celebrities, the press and the tourists. In terms of tourist dollars and movie stars spending their hard earned cash in the restaurants, clubs and bars, and the shops of Yorkville, it makes our city just a little more fabulous than usual. Nice also to note, is that this film festival is one of the most important film festivals in the world. We are getting respect. We get a little Hollywood. The Toronto Film Festival brought about $170 Million dollars to our fair city last year.

I’ve attended the TIFF festival many times over the past years and seen many special films which were the creative works of genius film directors. Some of these films never made it to my local cinema or even my Blockbuster video rental store, so I’m really glad I didn’t miss these movies at the Festival. I’ve bought tickets in advance and also had to wait in the lineups for hours, with the hope of seeing a movie by a certain film director that I did not want to miss for the life of me.

For movie buffs who don’t want to miss a thing, ticket packages are on sale now at their website at http://tiff.net/. I know quite a few movie buffs who take a whole week off from work just to see the Toronto International Film Festival movies. I also have a couple of friends, also movie buffs who volunteer for the Toronto International Film Festival on a regular basis. Is that not devotion to the Cinema? Where would the TIFF festival be without these devoted volunteers?

The Toronto Film Festival 2010 runs until September 19th this year. Looking forward to seeing what’s on in the way of movies, both in terms of Canadian and foreign films for this year.
